It was at the 1867 Universal Exhibition that the first bateaux-mouches made their debut in the capital. The exhibition organizers launched a competition, which was won by the La Mouche shipyards in association with the "Compagnie des Bateaux Omnibus de Lyon", owned by Messrs Plasson and Bonne and several other Lyon-based companies. They brought some 30 of their passenger boats to Paris, via the Saône, the Canal de Bourgogne, the Yonne and the Seine. In Paris, the Bateaux-Omnibus company's single line carried over 2.5 million passengers during the exhibition. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bateau-mouche
