The Armand cave is a natural French underground cavity located under the Méjean plateau in Lozere, between Meyrueis and Sainte-Enimie on the territory of the commune of Hures-la-Parade. A development including an artificial entrance and a funicular facilitates the tourist visit of this cavity famous for its "forest of stalagmites".It was Louis Armand who discovered it and descended the first one on September 19, 1897. The next day Édouard Alfred Martel and Armand Viré went with him to explore it. It was not until 1927 that the Aven Armand was finally fitted out and opened to the public to discover its immense main room in which the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral would fit and especially its forest of 400 stalagmites of which the largest of nearly 30 meters dedicate the world record for its size.
