This token represents the portal of the church of the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Ganagobie, of which the western façade is the most remarkable part. The portal is the first of the splendors of the priory of Gangobie that one can see when entering the Romanesque church. Under an oculus of large diameter is a monumental portal quite deep and established in the thickness of the gable wall. Having undergone several restorations around the 16th or more likely around the 17th century, it is composed of an archivolt where the full voussoirs are associated with scalloped voussoirs falling on columns on each side, and resting on a sideboard consisting of five molded bases. These columns are enhanced by Corinthian capitals with acanthus leaves, all different. One represents a bearded man's mask, the other one represents the masks of grinning gladiators, and imps seem to emerge from the stone. In ancient times, monks chose the site of Ganagobie to live and pray. Their patient work has transformed this site into a place where it seems that man and creation have signed a pact of love and beauty...
