In 1992, token dispensers were installed at all rail stations. The token covered the fare for one ride on the Metro-Rail or Metro-Bus. The token price rose to a maximum of $2 each. A roll of 10 tokens could be purchased for $19.50

On July 16, 2008, Miami-Dade Transit announced that it would be replacing all fare collection methods with the Easy Card system. On June 1, 2009 Miami-Dade Transit ceased the sale of tokens and announced that the value of unused tokens could be transferred to the Easy Card. The system was launched on October 1, 2009, replacing the old cash and token-based system with one that automatically deducts fares from a reloadable card.
