Comment

One of a series of 60 designs issued 1970-75, by engraver Piero Monassi of Italy, depicting the works of Michelangelo, celebrating 500th birthday of Michelangel.

TITYUS , a son of Gaea, or of Zeus and Elara, was a giant in Euboea, and the father of Europa. Instigated by Hera , he made an assault upon Leto, when she passed through Panopaeus to Pytho, but was killed by the arrows of Apollo, or, according to others, Zeus killed him with a flash of lightning. He was then cast into Tartarus, and there he lay staked on the ground, and vultures or snakes tore at his liver, for ever more.
