In 1905, the Canadian province of Alberta was created with the stroke of a pen from a piece of the much larger North-West Territories. In 1980, celebrations were held to commemorate the 75th anniversary of this event. As part of these celebrations, one of these medallions was given to every student enrolled in Alberta's public schools at the time.Original packaging of the medallion
Another event related to the "Alberta 75" celebrations was the adoption of Alberta's official and full coat of arms. Previously, Alberta's symbol had been a simple shield, but with Royal permission this shield was expanded with a crest, supporters, and a motto, turning it into a full coat of arms.
Similar medallions were distributed to schoolchildren in 1955 and 2005 for the 50th and 100th anniversary of the province.
