Comment
Brown: Perambulations were carried out (according to the datable record of tokens from perambulations at Gateshead) about once a decade. Members of the parish, local dignitaries, and the clergy, would be required to survey its boundaries by walking them. Priests would bless the crops during this exercise and the event would often culminate in a large feast. The practice had largely died out by the 1850s.
