Willem-Alexander, born on 27 April 1967 in Utrecht, has been King of the Netherlands since 30 April 2013.
The eldest son of Prince Claus van Amsberg and Queen Beatrix, he became Prince of Orange when his mother ascended the throne on 30 April 1980, after the abdication of Queen Juliana. After serving in the Royal Netherlands Navy, he completed his higher education at the Faculty of History at Leiden University. In 2002, he married Máxima Zorreguieta, an Argentinian national whom he met at a fair in Spain, with whom he has three daughters: Catharina-Amalia (born 2003), Alexia (born 2005) and Ariane (born 2007).
After the abdication of his mother Beatrix in 2013, Willem-Alexander became King of the Netherlands. In addition to his institutional obligations, he works part-time for the airline KLM as a co-pilot on the European network. With 85% approval ratings in 2018, he is one of the most popular heads of state in Europe.
