Most of the medals of this type found on the net are bronze. Only the https://bel-memorial.org/cities/autres-andere/numismatique.htm website presents a silver medal, but without specifying the reason for this variety. For other military awards, the distinction between bronze and silver is linked to length of service...

La Carte du Feu :
The Carte du Feu was created in May 1932 to be awarded to all Belgians who had served at least 12 months in a unit in contact with the enemy. (NdR: the https://bel-memorial.org/books/decorations_officielles_14-18_fr.pdf website states: All those who had received the "Carte du Feu" were entitled to this cross, i.e. those who had served at the front for at least 18 months) .

It was completed :
- in April 1933, with the creation of the Croix du Feu insignia worn as a buttonhole by Carte du Feu holders.

- in February 1934 with the creation of the Croix du Feu, which honors Carte du Feu holders.

Carte du Feu holders also received a non-portable bronze tribute medal (65mm diameter), the theme of which was the Belgian defense of the Yser. The holder's name appears on the reverse. Two models are available, differing in the language used: French or Dutch.

Engraver:
Eugène Canneel, born in Brussels on August 18, 1882 and died in Schaerbeek on July 21, 1966, was a Brussels artist (mainly sculptor). He belonged to an important family of artists. His grandfather was the painter Théodore Joseph Canneel. In addition to sculpture, Eugène Canneel was also active in the creation of medals. In 1930, he illustrated a medal for the 550th anniversary of the Saint-Georges crossbowmen's guild in Brussels.
