Comment

In 1830 there appeared a small satirical token marking the downfall of the Duke of Wellington's government, and his replacement as Premier by Lord Grey with the assistance of William IV; the reverse type with its inscription' By trampling on Liberty I lost the reins' was reused on an obituary token of William IV, 1837. (Minor products of British nineteenth-century diesinking - by R. N. P. Hawkins).
There is a similar medallion, with same obverse but the reverse design is facing opposite - and instead of a spear the rider is holding a sword; the lettering thereon is also rearranged to include 1830 date below. Another medallion is like that on this page, the only difference is obverse lettering 'WILLIAM IIII DIED JUNE 20 1937.' thereon.
