Reverse

The reverse of the medal shows the center of the liturgical space, the altar relief „Proslava“ ("Celebration"), around which the congregation of believers gathers for the celebration of the mystery of salvation, and the cenotaph with with the names of 15,840 fallen defenders. The central figure is the Risen Christ, depicted as the Victor and the Almighty. On the upper part of the medal above the relief „Proslava“ ("Celebration") along the edge of the medal from the left on the right is written the text "MARTYRIBUS PRO PATRIA CROATIA IN CHRISTO RESURRECTURIS" (to the martyrs for the homeland of Croatia, who will be resurrected in Christ), and below the "Celebration" relief on the polished surface in the middle is a text in two lines one below the other: „RELJEF POBJEDE“ ("Relief of the Victory").

The Votive Church of the Holy Mother of Freedom in Zagreb began to spring up during the Homeland War, at the place where the Croatian regiment prayed the rosary for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to preserve from historical oblivion the name of every Croatian veteran who donated life for the motherland.

The idea of building a votive church, the name of which was chosen by the Cardinal Archbishop of Zagreb Franjo Kuharić, inspired by the ancient litanies of the Mother of God of Trsat, started Salesian Don Petar Šimić.
