The inauguration of Brest's new town hall took place on December 18, 1961, in the presence of civilian and military dignitaries: prefect, sub-prefects, members of parliament, representatives of the navy and Breton towns, mayors and the president of the Chamber of Commerce.Georges Lombard, mayor at the time, gave a speech before Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, then Secretary of State for Finance, unveiled the plaque.
