It may seem strange that a Dutch company should have a French name. The company's history helps to unravel this mystery.
"La Compagnie des Eaux d'Utrecht, later Utrechtsche Waterleiding Maatschappij (UWM) (Utrecht Water Pipe Company), was a water company active from 1881 in the province of Utrecht as well as in Apeldoorn, Hilversum and Tiel.
The company was spun off in 1881 from a Belgian company based in Liège, Compagnie Générale des Conduites d'Eau. This company manufactured pipes for water mains and installed them, notably in Paris. The company won the contract to build, finance and operate water mains for the city of Utrecht and the surrounding area." ...

The Amsterdamsestraatweg water tower is located in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The water tower was built at 380 Amsterdamsestraatweg in 1916, in the style of the Amsterdam School. It was abandoned in 1986 and squatted several times before its redevelopment into apartments began in 2020.
