The obverse and reverse of 'the broad' is shown in gold on obverse side of medallion .after English civil war, country became a republic.as such new coins had to be made to be produced. Cromwell had to rename the gold sovereign after the removal of the sovereign king.
thus the 'Gold Broad' came into circulation. issued with a value of twenty shillings.
