The Sports Achievement Award celebrates those achievers in the sports sector as pioneers which hoist the UAE flag over local, Arab, and international skies; bequeathing the UAE with a respected status and favor throughout the world, and also reflecting their loyalty to the nation.

This appreciation ceremony is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and the patronage of Sheikh Zayed Bin Mansour Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. The ceremony is organized by the General Authority For Sports for those accomplishing athletic achievements or those contributing to or leaving a mark on the sports sector.

This award is based on an academic, realistic, and objective approach to award selection according to a regulation that stipulates special standards of selection for the second session. However, out of the belief in accelerating developments and contemporary advance, the standards were updated from time to time as per the value of each achievement, on the GCC, Arab and international levels.
