The Shield consists of two concentric circles, in the middle of which it reads "CAROLINA ACADEMIA COACTEMALENSIS INTER CAETERAS ORBIS CONSPICUA"
Inside the central circle we can see:

2. Portrait of San Carlos Borromeo, patron of the King of Spain, Don Carlos II.
3. Towers and lions, which correspond to the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Spain and which would come to represent the Kingdoms of Castilla y León.
4. Columns with PLUS ULTRA legend, which signify the high academic level of the University.

Comment

The Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC, University of San Carlos of Guatemala) is the largest and oldest university of Guatemala; it is also the fourth founded in the Americas. Established in the Kingdom of Guatemala during the Spanish colony, it was the only university in Guatemala until 1954.
