The Royal Air Force was officially formed on 1st April 1918, it was the first completely independent air force in the world and the most powerful. One of the most important moments in the history of the RAF was the Battle of Britain. The victory of the courageous 'Few' during the decisive Battle of Britain Day on 15th September 1940, was the turning point of WWII. The Royal Air Force have been protecting and securing the skies above Great Britain for 100 years. The '100th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force' commemorative strike features the coat of arms of the British Armed Forces, with an anchor, crossed swords and an eagle, representing the Royal Navy, the British Army and the Royal Air Force.
