Comment
One of the earliest medals of Pisanello, possibly even the first, dated around 1435-1440 by Syson and Gordon in Pisanello, Painter to the Renaissance Court, published in 2001.The duke was notoriously shy of his appearance (as related by his secretary Pier Candido Decembrio) and allowed Pisanello to portray him, hoping that all other depictions of him will replicate this medal.
