National Rifle Association gold Award Medal 1860 (1879) Eimer-1542 (unlisted in gold), BHM-2682 (unlisted in gold). 48mm/55.86gms. By George Gammon Adams. Obv. Two soldiers side-by-side, one from 1300-1500 with bow and arrows and the other modern day with a gun. Rev. 4-line inscription inside wreath. Corporal Taylor 47th L.R.V Wimbledon, 1879. A very rare medal in gold, this medal would have been awarded to the gold prize winner at the annual meeting, and would have been accompanied with a substantial cash prize (we've found references up to £250) as well.
