Comment

Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, also spelled Riquetti, comte de Mirabeau, more commonly known as Mirabeau, born March 9, 1749 in Le Bignon-Mirabeau, Loiret, France, and died April 2, 1791 in Paris, was a French writer, diplomat, journalist and politician, and a key figure of the French Revolution.

Nicknamed "l'Orateur du peuple" and "la Torche de Provence", he remains France's foremost symbol of parliamentary eloquence. Although a member of the nobility, he distinguished himself as a deputy of the Third Estate to the Estates-General. Much loved by the revolutionaries, his body was transported to the Pantheon on his death, but the discovery of his secret relations with royalty turned opinion upside down, and his remains were removed from the mausoleum of which he was the first occupant.
