Jean-Baptiste Drouet d'Erlon, born in Reims on July 29, 1765 and died in Paris on January 25, 1844, was a French military officer who became a general in 1799, a volunteer soldier during the Revolution, a Comte d'Empire under Napoleon, sentenced to death and exiled under Louis XVIII, pardoned by Charles X, Governor General in Algeria between 1834 and 1835, and elevated to the rank of Marshal of France in 1843 (Source Wikipedia).
