Comment

Hippolyte Le Roy or Leroy (1857-1943), was a sculptor, medal designer, painter, draughtsman, watercolorist... After a military career, he turned to art. He studied in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode (Brussels), Ghent, Paris, where he contributed to the decoration of the Arc de Triomphe, and Rome, before settling permanently in Ghent.

As a medal publisher, Paul Fisch (1865-1919) took over the company (founded in 1853) from his father, Antoine Fisch, in the entrepreneurial tradition. After his father's death, he ran Fisch & Cie for five years (1893-1898) with his mother Jeanne Wicot, brother Joseph and sister Antoinette. In 1898, he set up his own company, launching his own creations. Paul Fisch studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. From 1909, he was president of the Cercle des Beaux-Arts d'Anderlecht (Kunstkring van Anderlecht). His business did not disappear with his death, which occurred shortly after the First World War. His widow continued the business until 1924, when it was taken over by Désiré Roberte. The company ceased trading in 1930.
