Casa Milà (Catalan for "Milà House"), ironically nicknamed "La Pedrera" (Catalan and Spanish for "the stone quarry"), is a building in Barcelona, erected between 1906 and 1910 by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí.
Designed as a private mansion, Casa Milà is generally classified as a monumental work of Catalan modernism of the first decade of the 20th century, of which Gaudí was the leader. It was the penultimate project led by the architect, who used his key techniques here: naturalistic inspiration and the catenary arch.
Despite the city council's repeated opposition to the building's construction outside the limits of the Cerdà plan, and the mockery of Barcelonians, a century after its construction Casa Milà is one of the city's most emblematic landmarks and one of Barcelona's top ten tourist attractions. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
