Comment

Commemorative medal "Konrad Adenauer"

Adenauer was elected the first chancellor of the young Federal Republic in 1949. At this point he could already look back on an eventful political past. As Federal Chancellor, Adenauer made a valuable contribution to lasting reconciliation with France. He also paved the way for Germany's return to the international community and achieved Germany's partial sovereignty. Among other things, he steered the reconstruction of Germany and pushed through the accession to the NATO alliance. In 1963, Adenauer resigned from the Chancellery by agreement, but remained politically active until his death on April 19, 1967.
