Comment

These medals were struck to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII, and specific versions were issued to all the cities and boroughs participating in the event. This example is for the Borough of East Retford, who was governed by Mayor J.W. Holmes. This dated the coronation as 26 June 1902, although the King fell ill with appendicitis and the event was postponed to 9 August instead, but this was too late to change on the medals.
