Medal made in the commemoration of the exhibition held during the months of may and june in 1989 in La Coruña, titled “Las cecas gallegas”, in the context of the acts celebrated during the IV centenary of the heroic deed of María Pita, which happened on May the 3th in 1589.
María Mayor Fernández de Cámara y Pita (Sigrás, Cambre, 1565-1643), best known as María Pita, was a heroine in the defense of La Coruña in 1589 against the “English Invincible”, led by sir Francis Drake.
