In the center is a relief of a replica city-coin minted during the reign of Emperor Elagabalus (218-222 AD).
Athena, the goddess of wisdom and the science of war, is holding a spear in her right hand and a shield in her left hand. The inscription around Athena in Greek reads "Flavia Yoppas", as Jaffa was called in Hellenic times.
On the rim is the inscription "Coin of Jaffa 3977-82 in Hebrew, as well as the English text and dates 217-222 C.E.
