This medallion was released in 1980 as part of the Invicta 150 celebrations, which commemorated the opening of the first steam-driven passenger rail service in the world, between Canterbury and Whitstable in the United Kingdom. The medal was distributed in a plastic box with an inlay. Two types of inlay are known. The red, plastic inlay is marked "CANTERBURY" above the coin well and "WHITSTABLE" below. The green cardboard inlay is marked "ROYAL MUSEUM" above the coin well and "CANTERBURY" below.
