In 1968, to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Armistice, veterans of the First World War received a medal from the département in which they lived. All these medals, of very simple manufacture, have the particularity:- all have the same obverse.
- with the exception of 3 departments, the reverse sides are also identical, differing only in the name of the department embossed.
- with the exception of 5 departments, which are made of gilded metal, all these medals are made of silver metal.
- with the exception of Eure-et-Loir and Val de Marne (non-portable medals), they are suspended from a narrow satin-finish haberdashery ribbon in navy blue (majority) or red (Calvados, Manche).
20 different reverses are known.
