1948 Gold Discovery Centennial Medal, HK-497, R.4, Bronze, gold-plated. The Type One variety, showing a much larger miner and cabin. According to the So-Called Dollars reference, the total issue for both types one and two was limited to 3,000 to 4,000 bronze pieces, 1,000 being 24-kt gold plated. The yellow-gold lustrous surfaces of this Select example exhibit sharply struck design elements.
