Brown: [Sir Sidney Smith] amused himself by being president of the fictitious Knights of the White Slaves in Africa, founded in Paris in 1814, whose object was the liberation of Christian slaves from the Barbary pirates.
Some specimens of these medals have the date 1816 in incuse numerals below the bust.
