Reverse
The reverse represents an allegory illustrating the biblical passage from Matthew 25:21 ‘Enter thou into the Joy of thy Lord’ from the Parable of the Talents. An image of a classically garbed crowd of onlookers observing an ascent into heaven in a fiery chariot of a figure – identified in the Royal Collection Trust catalogue entry as the prophet Elijah, but which the crown on the passenger’s head surely suggests is the king himself.
