Comment

Charles George Gordon (January 28, 1833 - January 26, 1885), soldier and administrator, remembered for his exploits in China and northern Africa. The Siege of Khartoum commenced on the 18th March, 1884. The relief force arrived at Metemma on the 20th January 1885, started for Khartoum on the 24th arriving on the the 28th to find the city had been captured and Gordon killed two days before.
