Renowned medallist and author of several books and historical studies devoted to medals, orders of knighthood and military decorations, Jean-Pierre Collignon references over 1,200 partially illustrated medals on the 55 plates in this book.
"The French Revolution of 1848, the third French revolution after the French Revolution of 1789 and 1830, took place in Paris from February 22 to 25, 1848.
Under the impetus of liberals and republicans, the people of Paris, following a shoot-out, rose up again and succeeded in taking control of the capital. Louis-Philippe, refusing to fire on the Parisians, was forced to abdicate in favor of his grandson, Philippe d'Orléans, on February 24, 1848.
At 3 p.m. on the same day, Alphonse de Lamartine, surrounded by Parisian revolutionaries, proclaimed the Second Republic. Around 8 p.m., a provisional government was set up, putting an end to the July Monarchy."
