Comment
Van Loon# 579On December 20th 1780 England declared war against the Dutch Republic.
To save the Dutch fishing fleet that was stationed at Doggerbank, 8 days after the war broke out, naval officer Jacob van der Windt (1745-1792) escaped aboard the ship "De Roode Roos" with a majority of the fishing fleet from the harbour city of Vlaardingen.
