This white metal medal celebrates two events of 1914. Obverse shows the profile portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Portland, and is dated 11 June1889 -1914, whilst the reverse shows their eldest son, William Arthur Henry, Marquis of Titchfield, 16th March 1893-1914.William John Arthur James Cavendish - Bentinck was a well known racing enthusiast of the time. He married Winifred Anna Dallas-Yorke who was a social reformer involved in animal charities and the Miners' Welfare Association. She persuaded her husband to set aside some of his winnings for the betterment of the miners' cause. The date on this coin marks their 25th wedding anniversary.
William Arthur Henry, their son, commemorates his 21st birthday on this medallion. He became a Conservative politician and MP for Newark, achieving posts in the government of Stanley Baldwin and Ramsey MacDonald.
