Comment

Johann Albert, Baron von Korff was born in Courland and came to Russia in 1730 with Tsarina Anna (reigned 1730-1740) to serve her as chamberlain. Already in 1734, however, he was also president of the Academy of Sciences, and in 1740 he was finally appointed Russian ambassador to Copenhagen. In the same capacity he went to Stockholm in 1746, where he interfered in the inner-Swedish disputes. For this reason Swedish King Frederick I demanded his dismissal in 1749, and so Empress Elizabeth of Russia (reigned 1741-1761) decided that Korff had to be relocated to Denmark again as Russian ambassador. He was in Copenhagen until his death in 1766.
