Comment
Anne gold Coronation Medal 1702 MI-228/4, Eimer-390. 25mm. By J. Croker. Commemorating the coronation of Anne. Obv. Diademed and draped bust left. Rev. Anne (as Athena) standing right, holding shield and hurling thunderbolt at two-headed and four-armed serpentine monster (James III [the Old Pretender] and Louis XIV of France) to right, holding rocks and clubs. Highly lustrous, with an attractive golden-orange tone and exceptional artistry, this medal conveys the real threat seen by England in the form of a Jacobite-French alliance, and how much the former relied upon the success of Anne in stabilizing the post-Stuart England, soon to formally join with Scotland in the form of the United Kingdom.Price
