Located on the east side of the Alter Hafen basin is the distinctive apartment and shopping complex known as the Columbus-Center. Built between 1975 and 1982, it marks the transition from the old port area and the inner city of Bremerhaven. It comprises a two-storey car park, a two-storey shopping mall, about 70 shops and pubs, social amenities, a police station and a tourist office. The three blocks accommodate a total of 555 apartments.
