The Colossus of Rhodes is a gigantic bronze statue of Helios, the sun god, over thirty meters high, the work of Chares of Lindos. A reminder of Rhodian resistance to Demetrios I Poliorcete during the siege of Rhodes (305 to 304 BC), the colossus was erected in effigy of the tutelary god of the city of Rhodes around 292 BC.The colossus was toppled by an earthquake in 227 or 226 BC. Broken at the knees, it collapsed and fell to pieces. The broken statue remained in place until 654. Not a trace of the colossus remains today. In ancient times, the Colossus of Rhodes was considered the sixth of the Seven Wonders of the World. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colosse_de_Rhodes
