Carlos III gold Proclamation Medal 1778, Real Academia de Derecho Espanol, Armored bust of Carlos III right wearing the Order of the Golden Fleece and the Order of Carlos III/A group of allegorical figures surrounding a table, engraver Geronimo Antonimo Gil, Grove K-76, 58mm, 114.7g, lustrous XF with minor rim bumps. Struck from the second dies after the first dies were lost. This is noted by having the engraver's name listed as GIL instead of G.A.GIL as on Grove K-75. Issued to commemorate the Law Academy in Madrid. Gil was a very prominent engraver for the Mexico City Mint and Director General of the Academia de Bellas Artes. Very rare.
