Comment

Dukes of Monmouth & Argyle Beheaded gilt silver Medal 1685, by R. Arondeaux. Eimer-281, MI-615/27. Obv. James' bust on crossed sceptres over pedestal, crowned coat of arms resting against. Rev. Justice on altar trampling serpent; decapitated dukes surround. Issued for the beheading of James Scott and Archibald Campbell. The gilding does not appear to be original. A very rare medal.
