Comment
Cardinal Mercier, Primate of Belgium, was a great public resistance fighter. He was also at the origin of the ecumenical movement, particularly with the Anglican Church, through the Malines Conversations. He was also a great intellectual philosopher who restored Thomism.
The two words on the reverse: Patriotism and Endurance are the title of his Christmas Pastoral Letter of 1914, which was distributed throughout Belgium.
