Comment
This medal was awarded to all those embarked on the ships of the Mediterranean Squadron.
Amadeo I (1845-1890), Duke of Aosta and son of Victor Emmanuel II of Italy and María Adelaida Francisca, supported by General Prim, was constitutionally elected king of Spain by the Cortes. After traveling from the port of La Spezia in Italy, and disembarking in Cartgena on December 30, 1870, on January 2, 1871 he was proclaimed king in Madrid. He renounced the throne in February 1873.
