Comment

N. M. Przhevalsky, Russia's foremost explorer of Central Asia explored eastern Siberia, Mongolia, the Gobi, northern Tibet. Przevalsky was an advocate of 19th century imperialism and wrote that the only way to explore Asia is „with a carbine in one hand, a whip in the other". His other opinions of the local populace need not be repeated here. Interestingly, it has been claimed that he was the father of Josef Stalin, perhaps because there is a close physiognomic resemblance.
