Johannes Obernburger, aka Johannes Schmidt (1486-1552) was born on Obernburg and became a Mainz cleric, top secretary in the Court chancellery of Emperor Charles V, imperial and papal notary and provost in the Imperial Cathedral of St. Bartholomew in Frankfurt am Main. As an interpreter in German, Latin and French for German affairs, Obernburger was very close to the emperor.

Eleven years after Johannes Obernburger's death, the city council had attached a sandstone bust with a portrait character to his parents' house at Römerstrasse 26, which can still be seen today, albeit weathered.
Obernburg am Main (short version: Obernburg) is a town in the Miltenberg district in the Regierungsbezirk of Lower Franconia (Unterfranken) in Bavaria, Germany.
