Somain Coat of Arms: 1st Gules, escarbuncle Or pierced Azure, 2nd Azure, three fleurs-de-lis Or. https://armorialdefrance.fr/page_blason.php?ville=14584In the 9th century, Somain was an imperial tax, i.e. a direct domain of the Prince, given to Princess Gisèle, daughter of Louis the Pious on her marriage to Count Evrard de Frioul. Princess Gisele founded a chapel here, which was later converted into a priory.
In 867, the holy couple founded the abbey of Saint-Calixte de Cysoing and granted Somain to their third son Adalard. Following the death of Count Evrard de Frioul, King Charles the Bald returned the taxes of Cysoing and Somain to his sister Gisele. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somain
