Comment
Several (very thin) examples of the small medal (32 mm) with a loop exist in copper, aluminum and possibly tin. It is suggested by some that, “The French National Rescue Day, held on 23 and 24 May 1915 and extended on Pentecost Day, consisted of selling medals and brooches.” In any event, these were likely sold as fundraisers and designed to be light enough to secure to clothing with a ribbon and pin through the loop. Many examples can be found online with loops, tri-colour ribbons and sometimes the original pins.
Larger examples of this design (50+ mm) are available in bronze, silver, etc.. The reverse has the word PATRIE at the top, and a Gallic rooster with a view of industry in the background, surrounded by wreath. The edge of the larger medals are plain smooth edge and in the case of the silver ones, they are stamped with a cornucopia and the word 1ARGENT.
According to Wikipedia “Hippolyte-Jules Lefèbvre (4 February 1863 - November 1935) was a French sculptor and medallist who received numerous official marks of recognition in his day but is now largely forgotten.” (i.e., could be added to Numista's library)
