The Médaille d'Honneur du Travail was awarded to civilian personnel of the former French Ministries of War, Navy and Air, according to distinct statutes:

- the Médaille d'Honneur du Travail du Ministère de la Guerre, created by the decree of March 28, 1888, for French civil servants with more than 30 years' consecutive good service in construction and war service establishments;

- Médaille d'honneur du Travail pour le personnel non militaire de la Marine, created by the decree of September 8, 1894, for civil servants in naval establishments and arsenals with more than 30 years' consecutive good service;

- the Médaille d'honneur de l'Aéronautique, created by the decree of January 12, 1921, for civil servants in Air Force establishments and bases.
