The 1st Division (1re DIV) is a major unit of the French Army. It was formed during the Second World War as the 1st Armored Division (1re DB).
Disbanded for the first time in 1946, it was recreated in 1948. It was disbanded again in 1999 as part of the professionalization of the French armed forces.
The 1st mechanized brigade (1re BM), created on July 1, 1999, inherited its traditions. The 1st BM was in turn disbanded on July 21, 2015.
The 1st division was recreated in 2016 as part of the Army's reorganization plan. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/1re_division_blind%C3%A9e_(France)
